How To Apply For PAN Card online

Applying for PAN card online can be quite tough if you do not know of the procedure. Mistakes could be made like misspelling of name, wrong address or not sending the correct proof. So here is a guide so that applying for
PAN card application form is easy for you.

1. Required documents

First thing is to decide on the documents for the proofs of identity, address and date of birth. Here are the documents that can be used for these purposes:

  1. Proof of Identity
  • Aadhaar Card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India.
  • Voter ID
  • Driving License
  • Passport
  • Ration card(having photograph of applicant)
  • Arm's License
  • Photo ID card issued by the Central or State Government of Public Sector Undertaking
  • Pensioner card(having photograph of applicant)
  • Central Government Health Service Scheme Card or Ex-Serviceman Contributory Health Scheme Photo card

     2. Proof of Address

  • Aadhaar Card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India
  • Voter ID card
  • Driving License
  • Passport
  • Passport of Spouse
  • Post office passbook(having address of applicant)
  • Latest property tax assessment order
  • Domicile certificate issued by the Government
  • Allotment letter or accommodation issued by Central or State Government(not more that 3 years old)
  • Property Registration Document
  • Copy of these document of not more than 3 months old
           1. Electricity bill
           2. Landline telephone or Broadband bill
           3. Water Bill
           4. Consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill
           5. Bank account statement
           6. Depository account statement
           7. Credit Card statement  
  • Certificate of Address in Original signed by an MP or MLA or Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted Officer
  • Employer Certificate in original.

     3. Proof of Date of Birth

  • Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by the Registrar of Birth and Deaths or the Indian Consulate as defined in clause (d) of sub-section (1) of section 2 of the Citizenship Act 1955 (57 of 1955)
  • Pension payment order
  • Marriage Certificate issued by Registrar of Marriages
  • Matricultion Certificate
  • Passport
  • Driving License
  • Domicile Certificate issued by the Government
  • Affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth
Scan all the documents so that you can upload it. You also require 2 photographs for the form

2. Applying Online

Once all the scans are done, just do the following:

  1. Go to the following link.
  2. Scroll down and select 'Individual' in the 'Apply for a New PAN Card' drop down menu and the click 'Select'.
  3. Start filling the form by following the guidelines provided here.
  4. First you need to fill the AO Code, which can be found here, or can be inquired by dialing the Toll Free helpline 18001801961.
  5. Complete the form, entering the documents you chose as proofs in Step 1.
  6. Select the payment method. The PAN application fee is Rs. 105. Further charges can be deducted based on the payment method you choose. If you want a PAN card outside India then the fee is Rs. 971. The available methods are Demand Draft, cheque, Credit/Debit card or Net Banking.
  7. When you are done, click 'Submit'.
  8. A page will open to show what you data you have entered, cross check everything and click 'Confirm' after entering the Captcha code.
  9. Note the transaction number on the next page and read the payment terms and conditions. After reviewing the terms click on 'Agree'.
  10. Complete the payment. Which will then lead to the opening of the acknowledgement form. Print this page as it has the unique 15-digit acknowledgement number.
  11. Paste the 2 photographs in the space provided on the printout of the acknowledgment. Also sign in the provided box.
  12. Put the form along with the DD/Cheque(if payment not done online) and the documents for proof you chose in the form.
  13. Post it to NSDL at Income Tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune - 411016.

  14. The application must reach NSDL within 15 days of the date of the Online application.

    1. Enter the PAN details here: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/KnowYourPan.html

      It will automatically show the details of PAN number if it is correct. The name, PAN number etc. This will ensure that it is correct or fake.
